Y.E.S. Mission Statement:

Y.E.S. is an acronym for the Youth Entrepreneurial System, and hopes to become a community nonprofit organization that seeks to empower disadvantaged youth by allowing them to develop their own small business, avoid drugs and crime, sharpen academic skills, and form positive attitudes about themselves and their communities. Y.E.S. has more than the vision to tell youth to strive for a better life, we try to show and help the youth in our community get started. Description of the services: Youth Entrepreneurial System is a social / economic development program for youth. The program is designed to encourage and aide in the implementation of youth entrepreneurial enterprises. The program seeks to serve as a model in the city of Poughkeepsie, New York, that with success, will be replicated in other communities of Dutchess County. The targeted youth comprise a broad spectrum of the community. The program plans to use academic achievers to serve as role models for those students who are in danger of dropping out of school It is hoped that teens who have already left the school system will be attracted to the program as an alternative and as a way to gain self-respect and self-help skills in order to enter the job market. The projects hopes to prepare the youth by introducing them to entrepreneurial projects that will enable them to become active participants in the economic community. It is the intention of the program to prepare the youth for entry level non- subsided jobs, and careers in the private sector. Guided by advisors from the community and from their peers, the program plans to introduce exposure to the workings of public planning, economic development and the city and county political system via a hands-on feature as they plan, design, develop, implement and evaluate entrepreneurial projects.
